Dear Recovery Homes,
Twelve years ago, one after David’s Passing, we began a journey to honor my brother, David, by turning our loss into a source of hope for others. Today, I am writing to share that we have reached a significant milestone in that journey.
Because of your unwavering support, David’s New Day has spent over a decade providing recovery support services to those in need. When we first began, I was a sister who had just lost her brother, reeling in grief and quite frankly, lost in a world where he no longer existed. My family and I made the decision to turn our pain into purpose and by helping others find hope, it provided healing for us along the way.
We took our mission further than we ever dreamed possible when we first began. To ensure that my brother’s legacy continues to directly impact those who need it most, we have made the intentional decision to transition into our final chapter of service.
I carry a complex mix of emotions as I share this news. On one hand, I am immensely proud of what we have built together over the last 13 years; we have turned a personal tragedy into a beacon of hope for so many. On the other hand, my heart is so heavy as this formal chapter closes.
The truth is, this mission—and my brother’s memory—deserve a level of time and energy that I can no longer sustainably give. As my children grow, along with their growing schedules and the demands of my day job, running David’s New Day how I want to has become a challenge. We have a team of board members that have served our mission out of the kindness of their hearts and carved out the little time they had in their busy lives to help me. Without them, we would not have succeeded, and I am forever grateful for their selflessness. However, with this said, the most responsible and loving path forward is to conclude our work while we are at our strongest.
We feel that the best way to honor David now is to put every remaining dollar directly into the hands of those seeking a new path. Once these final funds have been fully distributed, David’s New Day will formally close its doors, knowing we have fulfilled the purpose for which we were founded.
This organization was built on the love of a community that refused to let a tragedy be the end of David’s story. You have been a vital part of our story. While this formal chapter is ending, the lives changed and the hope restored in David’s name are permanent.
